The Beyond Coaching Conference is catered towards providing coaches with the tools and opportunities to promote the Coach New Brunswick vision of providing universal access to quality coaching and enjoying a positive sporting experience through all stages of life. The conference dates has been specifically chosen to coincide with the conclusion of National Coaches Week – a week dedicated to celebrating the positive impact coaches have on athletes and communities across Canada.

Beyond Coaching Conference Details:
We are excited to bring you an evening of presentations by two of Canada’s prominent sport leaders:
“Building Community through Sport” with Greg Henhawk, Mohawk of the Bear Clan from Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation, Manager of Indigenous Projects at Sport for Life
Greg earned an Honours Kinesiology degree at the University of Waterloo and a Bachelor of Education at Althouse College (UWO) with specialization in physical education and science. He also spent time at Lakehead University working towards a master’s degree in Coaching Science with a concentration in Sports Psychology. Greg has spent 31 years in education. His various roles at Hagersville Secondary School have included: physical education, science and math teacher; department head of physical education; and dual credit teacher at the alternative education program called School Within a College (SWAC).
He has spent 25 years coaching basketball at the community, competitive club, high school, provincial elite development, national elite development and university varsity level. He is presently coaching field hockey and badminton at the high school and competitive club level. Greg has been coaching various sports for 41 years. He has also been involved in the NCCP since 1980 as a participant, learning facilitator (coach developer), master coach developer and project advisor. His latest area of focus is the Aboriginal Coaching Modules (ACM) and the Aboriginal Long Term Participant Development model (ALTPD). Greg was a founding board member of the Coaches Association of Ontario.
“The Importance of the Athlete/Coach Bond” with Marnie McBean, 3x Olympic Gold Medalist and Chef de Mission for Team Canada Tokyo 2020
Marnie McBean is one of Canada’s most decorated Olympians, and an expert in turning potential into performance. As a former Specialist in Olympic Athlete Preparation and Mentoring for the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC), McBean prepared athletes emotionally and psychologically to ensure that they performed at the highest level.
McBean is a member of Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame and has been made an Officer of the Order of Canada. In recognition of her work, she was named Canada’s Chef de Mission for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. In this role, she acts as a spokesperson for Team Canada and a mentor for the athletes, coaches, and staff, all with the aim to create an inclusive environment conducive to optimal performance.
Currently an ambassador for Right to Play, Fast and Female, and Plan Canada’s Because I Am a Girl initiative, McBean is actively involved in helping to promote the safety, health, and activity of Canada’s youth. She is also the author of The Power of More: How Small Steps Help Us Achieve Big Goals, which outlines how she, a three-time Olympic gold medal rower, sets and achieves goals, both in sports and in life.
