Growing as a Leader with UNB’s Marta Belsh, Erin McAleenan and Lauren Hale-Miller (S6E6)

UNB REDS head coaches Marta Belsh, Erin McAleenan and Lauren Hale-Miller join host PL Savoie for a special National Coaches Week podcast episode that includes topics like growing as a leader, making a difference in the lives of athletes, dealing with criticism, navigating conflict in a healthy way, being vulnerable, and disconnecting as a coach.

Marta Belsh is in her sixth season as head coach of the UNB REDS women’s and men’s swimming teams. She has almost 30 years of coaching experience, and previously swam for the Polish national junior team.

Erin McAleenan is entering her second year as head coach of the UNB women’s basketball team. Last season, she lead the team to the AUS championship game, UNB’s first appearance in over ten years. McAleenan has more than a decade of experience coaching at the university level, and has coached national and provincial teams.

Lauren Hale-Miller was hired as head coach of UNB’s women’s volleyball team in May 2024, after five years as head coach at Northwestern Polytechnic. She was also named ACAA Coach of the Year in 2019 with the UNBSJ Seawolves.

Pierre-Luc “PL” Savoie is in his second season as co-host and producer of the Coach’s Plan Podcast. Originally from Bathurst, NB, he moved to Fredericton to pursue post-secondary education, leading to valuable experience with Sport NB, Softball NB, and Team-Équipe NB at two Canada Games. PL brings an inquisitive and passionate point of view to each episode, which can be enjoyed by anyone.
